As Managing Director in the Zurich office of Stroz Friedberg, Nico Van der Beken brings more than 20 years of experience in Information Technology, including a keen focus on digital forensics and eDiscovery. He manages the firm’s full range of risk and technology services, specialising in digital forensics, incident response, and data discovery solutions. To that end, he assists major law firms, government agencies and corporations involved in criminal, civil, regulatory and internal investigations.  He further offers an extensive background in cross-border electronic discovery and regularly consults on the technical and strategic aspects of such initiatives.

Previously Mr. Van der Beken was a Partner with Deloitte Switzerland. While with the Big Four, he was in charge of their Analytic & Forensic Technology practice and had a leading role within the firm’s discovery practice in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Prior to joining Deloitte, he headed the Forensic Technology practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Lausanne and Zurich, Switzerland. Notably, Mr. Van der Beken has successfully directed several significant banking fraud investigations related to mortgages, credit card and penny stock fraud, and falsified statements. In addition, he adeptly executed a large international espionage investigation requiring the review of seven million emails. His extensive expertise also comes from his work at a top Luxembourg financial institution where he led a substantial sanctions eDiscovery engagement comprised of 260 custodians and an enormous seven years’ worth of data.

Mr. Van der Beken is an active member of the Sedona Conference, International Working Group 6. He is a guest lecturer at the University of Zurich & Federal Institute of Technology/ETH on “Cybercrime Investigations” in the module “Economic Crime Investigations & Investigations, Corporate Resilience” and also at the University of St. Gallen for “Economic Crime” and “Digital Evidence.”

Mr. Van der Beken is fluent in German, Dutch, French and English, with an advanced level of Italian.
